Sorry to ask such a basic question in such a wonderful forum with many deep topics! Has anyone every been to the Mayan Ruins of Tulum in Cozumel Mexico? I am taking a cruise in a couple weeks and thinking about taking that excursion to go visit it, but not sure it is worth the 45minute ferry ride, then the 1 hour bus ride to get there, not to mention the $100/person. Any information would be helpful!
Thanks!
Todd
Todd,
Well, are you a ruins buff, or not?
They're all different. I haven't visited Tulum, I but I have visited other Meso-American ruins and I did find them worthwhile. Many years ago I visited Palenque in the jungles of the Yukatan. I did meditation there and found it very powerful, in a quiet way (the chattering tourists came and went, but therer were periods of silence). Tikal in Guatemala was much larger and more impressive, but less powerful (for me); a good one-time experience, but I would probably not go back. It was kind of like a NYC of ancient times. But the most powerful and amazing ruin of the three that I visited was the Toltec ruin, Teotihuacan, just outside of Mexico city. It's immense and impersonal. Just to be there puts you in touch with big forces beyond ordinary understanding. At least that was my experience. I'll go back there some day.
My daughter has been to Machu Picchu in Peru, and that is amazing if only because of its spectacular location.
Of course, your cruise isn't going to put you within reach of any of these ruins -- but at least keep Teotihuacan in mind for future, if you haven't already been there.
So..., I know nothing about Tulum. It could be amazing or not. But I'm sure that if I were in the vicinity, I'd visit. Maybe you can intuit whether or not it would mean something to you.
Good luck and have a great cruise.
thanks Bob. Yea I am very fascinated by the ancient ruins. I have never had the opportunity to visit any so it excites me to finally have a chance to go. I've been doing a lot of study on the ancient cities and ancient teaching, sacred geometry and how it all relates to everything in nature. It is something that interests me more than anything else ever has and all I want to do is learn more and more.
