This is the crowd before the riot.   Put your cursor anywhere in the crowd and double-click a couple of times and then use the roll button in the centre of your mouse.  This is pretty amazing.

 Check this out ...

This is the photo taken by Port Moody photographer Ronnie Miranda that appeared in our Tri-City News last Friday (24-June).

This is actually scary.  You can see - perfectly - the faces of every single individual - and there were thousands!

Privacy?  Just think what the police and the military have at their disposal.

This isn't really face recognition technology - and it isn't happening in a single shot either by the way. What Gigapan does is take a long telephoto lens and take multiple shots of the subject close up (hundreds of shots) and then stitch them all together in the computer. SO the end result is an ultra high resolution photo. So in this case - I can assume that photo took an hour or so to complete.

More scary than this is REAL face recognition technology - which is video based and can identify you while moving. Another similar and related technique is using a computer to "learn" the patterns in a square or street corner - and then if anyone breaks that pattern - like suddenly turns around and runs back the other direction for instance - then the video cameras all track and confirm identity etc. We have this technology right now - and no doubt it is on line somewhere.

Once they have all of our faces on file (DMV - hello) then they could easily take a pic as was done above and use a computer program to ID everyone at the event.

Does this work using a laptop's built-in mouse?

I have two laptops and on the right side of the touchpad you can scroll with a straight up and dowm motion..

I tried it again, Billy, using your instructions.  I can click and zoom okay, is that it or does it do something else?  My laptop is a cheap piece of sh*t, so I'm probably missing out on the fun.

BTW, I just love your new photo!  Quite a switch from your previous conservative one.
