I had some personal experience with this. After Fukushima happened we decided to invest in a geiger counter. We found that some beautiful cobalt blue salt shakers and hot plate I had bought at Pier One Imports (I beleive they were made in either India or China) were radioactive. I should have know better than to buy something that was probably made by sweatshop labor - it could have cost me my life.
I thought the rainwater wouldn't be carrying radiation from Fukushima anymore since we are past the big explosions. Not so according to this guys measurements in St. Louis.
