Have you read any good books lately??

I go to the Library and scan the shelves....I stand and look side to side, up and down and back......I check my watch and realize that I've been here ''too long'' and I still don't have a book.....so I pick one that 'looks good.' Some are great reads. Most, I get into and realise that I don't want to read them.......too this or too that.......never jude a book by it's cover....or, as I have found, by it's title. Some good suggestions have been The Stand by Stephen King.... it could happen....lol.... The Celestine Prophecy.... A Catcher in the Rye....(Rings way too true.......hey, i am what i am......)

So anyway... all genres are good.

My question is                 Have you read any good books lately??

Great book. I love Stephen King's short stories, too. He wrote Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, and also a wonderful novel called Bag Of Bones that I'd love to see made into a movie.

I love reading the improbable adventures of Dirk Pitt in the Clive Cussler novels.

lol....two of my favorites.

Lately I've also been rereading the Quaker writings, especially the journals of John Woolman. This last year I've been taking a new look at Joseph Campbell's wonderful set, The Masks of God; browsed through the Apostolic Fathers (IClement, the Shepherd of Hermas, etc); the Memoirs of Pius II; and most of all my books on cosmetic ingredients and herbal medicines.

So I do read serious stuff. Right now I'm in the middle of two Clive Cussler novels and a couple of trashy police novels.

Great forum topic ... so I'd like to add Richard Bach's 'One' and 'Illusions'. Also a book written in the 70's(?) called Tracks by Robyn Davidson, about her solo trek across the Australian desert with her camels. Anything by Robert Fulgham is easy but interesting reading.

Hmmm, I'll have to check the bookshelf!

I've wanted to read Catcher in the Rye but havent as yet, has anyone else and if so what did you think of it?

love and joy

i liked catcher in the rye. it's pretty pessemistic but there is something very ''real'' about it. i find that i am a catcher in the rye.....lost.....

when i was in highschool there was an uproar because it had been banned from high schools. supposedly because of homosexuality......but really it's because he says g/d every breath.....but if that was taken out of the book then it would dim the character developement. it's not an uplifting book......no great spirituality.....but it's a good one.

i liked it. lol

Catcher In The Rye came out when I was in Jr. High School (they call it Middle School now)...it was banned of course, so just having a copy in our locker was one of those delicious juvenile thrills....contraband!

I read it five times over the course of a year, because I hated it. Eh? I thought it was dumb, and I was trying to discover what everyone saw in it. I never did figure it out. That was 45 years ago...maybe I should reread it sometime.

like i said.....no deep spirituality or inspiration......but i do like it....lol

Greetings TT members

Here is a great place to read free ...most of the important literature on different religious texts...as well as many others...my two favorites are

Life and it's Mysteries

The Eternal Career

both by Frank Hammer....both located under New Thought catagory at Sacred-Texts....

if children were allowed to read these two books, their lives would be changed forever, as they give guidance about life...and death...and solves the mysteries related to same...or at least they give a novel approach that should be considered

I found them to be the best books I read last year...hope you do too....they only take a day to read....a day well spent !!!!

Blessings
