I am copying this from another site because I thought it is an important article to consider. I love asparagus so why not try it as I am becoming more and more a semi-vegitarian. ASPARAGUS .. WHO KNEW? Can't hurt to try~ Asparagus -- Who knew ? This is from a friend My Mom had been taking the full-stalk canned style asparagus that she pureed and she took 4 tablespoons in the morning and 4 tablespoons later in the day. She did this for over a month. She is on chemo pills for Stage 3 lung cancer in the pleural area and her cancer cell count went from 386 down to 125 as of this past week. Her oncologist said she does not need to see him for 3 months. THE ARTICLE: Several years ago, I had a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer. He gave me a photocopied copy of an article, entitled, Asparagus for cancer 'printed in Cancer News Journal, December 1979. I will share it here, just as it was shared with me: I am a biochemist, and have specialized in the relation of diet to health or over 50 years. Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked with him on his project We have accumulated a number of favorable case histories. Here are a few examples: Case No. 1, A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin's disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise. Case No. 2, a successful businessman 68 years old who suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments, including radiation without improvement, he went on asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal. Case No. 3, a man who had lung cancer. On March 5th 1971, he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the Asparagus therapy and immediately started taking it By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared.. He is back at his regular business routine. Case No. 4, a woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She finally developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by the acting specialist as advanced. Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and no more skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus. I was not surprised at this result, as `The elements of materia medica', edited in1854 by a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania , stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones. He even referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones. Note the dates! We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records. I am therefore appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and natural remedy. For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using, and therefore canned asparagus is just as good as fresh. I have corresponded with the two leading canners of asparagus, Giant and Stokely, and I am satisfied that these brands contain no pesticides or preservatives. Place the cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree, and store in the refrigerator. Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening. Patients usually show some improvement in 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink. This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases. As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that `what cures can prevent.' Based on this theory, my wife and I have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with our meals. We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold. For years we have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular checkups. The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to nothing but the asparagus drink. As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed cures. As a result, I am convinced that asparagus fits in better with the latest theories about cancer. Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which are believed to be active in controlling cell growth.. For that reason, I believe asparagus can be said to contain a substance that I call cell growth normalizer. That accounts for its action on cancer and in acting as a general body tonic. In any event, regardless of theory, asparagus used as we suggest, is a harmless substance. The FDA cannot prevent you from using it and it may do you much good. It has been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing glutathione, which is considered one of the body's most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants. I love asparagus and always get it if it's available where I often eat. I ALWAYS feel better. It could be I just like the flavor but I suspect I crave something in it. Thanks Berry. I just wish this anon person had more than anecdotes to share...
P.S. I just looked up this article via Google: An about.com article said it's an urban legend....ugh! I dunno.
Peace to you! Brian

Funny thing about asparagus - it makes your urine have an odd smell, but I still love it. This must be the bodies reaction to those unusual enzymes it contains.
I think this is the best way to prevent and treat cancer - get your vit. B17 by eating apple, peach and appricot pits. We have experimented with this on a pet rat that had cancers and extended his life quite a while. You can't buy the vit. pills in the US but can order them on line from Mexico. I've taken them and eaten tons of appricot pits and never had a bad reaction so they are definitely not poisonous as the medical establishment would have you believe.
Also, don't use sun block - get plenty of rays that produce vit. D. and take D. suppliments.
This film is old but it contains important information about how the medical/pharmaceutical complex has purposely suppressed cancer cures from the publc.

My wife can get away without it but I get badly burned after about 20 minutes in the sun if I don't put on sun screen. Unless I've built up a base tan over the course of a few months, but even then, I can't spend too long in the sun without painful burns. Aloe works wonders afterwards though.
All that is required is 20 minutes of sun a day without sunscreen. Also sitting in the sun at sunrise or sunset will assist your body in creating vit. D
Eat a healthy diet with a full range of vit. B's and mostly alkaline foods. Eat animal, fish, or fowl flesh limitedly. This will assist the body in being healthy.
Drink plenty of blessed solar water. At least 64 ounces a day.
Cultivate an attitude of gratitude and joy and love full of laughter and mirth. A good attitude is catching!

Hasn't anybody here learned yet that Snopes and Urban Legends, even though they do provide some useful information, are both extensions of the Governments misinformation network? They will deny all of the conspiritorial information which has more than enough evidence to be proven but which the government categorically denies, such as 9-11, the toxicity of chemtrails and you name it.
I put that google link up there after typing in "can asparagus cure cancer" full well knowing that all viewpoints of the issue would show up like usual. I did not even go to any of the links because I already love asparagus and love that it makes my pee smell like asparagus, LOL.
Just know I did not place that link there because I "believe" in something snopes or urban legends has purported and want to share it as if it were the "truthiness". Like I say, didn't even go to any of the links. The point of the google link was more along the lines of how easy it is to get flooded with info about any issue by simply asking google a question.
We are all personally response-able for what we read and what we think of it. Liberation at its finest!!!
No polarization one way or the other...
I hear you Berry. I have become convinced that cancer cures are actively suppressed whether by hard conspiracy or by the accumulated actions of those who stand to lose out financially. Personaly I favor the latter explanation but...
My latest fear of conspracy? That Google itself is in fact an NSA control mechanism by proxy. Also, has anybody else thought that cloud computing is incredibly ripe for data mining?...Oy!
That leaves us in the sacred meditation room with no media influence. Not so bad.
Imagine a world where there is never any talk of what someone heard or read on the "news"?
Now we just might be getting somewhere... hmmmm
Brian, that Google theory (or fact) is strangely interesting and rings a reasonation bell. Were they taken over at some point, or was the story manufactured from the beginning to run cover for the setup, and publically traded to "ad" insult to injury as in thumbing secretive black ops nose in John and Joan Q Public's unassuming face?
This "down the rabbit hole business" is intriguing stuff, but I sometimes wonder if all of it (or much of it) is designed to get us chasing the manufactured rabbit... A conspiracy behind the conspiracy so to speak. Whatta ya bet they play chess?
I predict that "Google is actually a dia-bow-lical conspiracy" will now go viral-hah;-)
That idea came from learning about intelligence agencies spying methods. When they wanted to know what you were doing with your PC their methods included time-consuming attacks on your data which resided on your hard drive. TOO SLOW! So they needed a mass-collection method of data mining...Google could be that method hiding in plain sight. (email/maps/search history/comments/documents/cellular/videos/an "akashic record" of the whole Internet)
I worry a lot- an old habit since I was a kid. That fear I'm not safe in the world-a perspective of fear that I seem to cling to...it has it's costs and it's benefits (fear and it's adrenaline may counteract depression-hmmm).
I vacillate in believing in conspiracies and coverups real or imagined because I don't have enough proof to overcome my old "pre-conspiracy" self, although I have enough to convince my more open-minded self and huddling close-my scared self. Scared self will believe anything. Open-minded self is skeptical but logical and old self is somewhat of a debunker and hard skeptic.
Oh wait- I forgot spiritual and meditative self! It waits patiently(what other way does he know?) but doesn't get the proper nourishment and attention...the red-headed stepchild. Considering my greatest happiness comes from living there it surprises me how I haven't put in the effort. I will.
