AS PROTESTS against financial power sweep the world this week, science may have confirmed the protesters' worst fears. An analysis of the relationships between 43,000 transnational corporations has identified a relatively small group of companies, mainly banks, with disproportionate power over the global economy.
The study's assumptions have attracted some criticism, but complex systems analysts contacted by New Scientist say it is a unique effort to untangle control in the global economy. Pushing the analysis further, they say, could help to identify ways of making global capitalism more stable.
The idea that a few bankers control a large chunk of the global economy might not seem like news to New York's Occupy Wall Street movement and protesters elsewhere (see photo). But the study, by a trio of complex systems theorists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, is the first to go beyond ideology to empirically identify such a network of power. It combines the mathematics long used to model natural systems with comprehensive corporate data to map ownership among the world's transnational corporations (TNCs).
"Reality is so complex, we must move away from dogma, whether it's conspiracy theories or free-market," says James Glattfelder. "Our analysis is reality-based."
Previous studies have found that a few TNCs own large chunks of the world's economy, but they included only a limited number of companies and omitted indirect ownerships, so could not say how this affected the global economy - whether it made it more or less stable, for instance.
The Zurich team can. From Orbis 2007, a database listing 37 million companies and investors worldwide, they pulled out all 43,060 TNCs and the share ownerships linking them. Then they constructed a model of which companies controlled others through shareholding networks, coupled with each company's operating revenues, to map the structure of economic power.
The work, to be published in PloS One, revealed a core of 1318 companies with interlocking ownerships (see image). Each of the 1318 had ties to two or more other companies, and on average they were connected to 20. What's more, although they represented 20 per cent of global operating revenues, the 1318 appeared to collectively own through their shares the majority of the world's large blue chip and manufacturing firms - the "real" economy - representing a further 60 per cent of global revenues.
When the team further untangled the web of ownership, it found much of it tracked back to a "super-entity" of 147 even more tightly knit companies - all of their ownership was held by other members of the super-entity - that controlled 40 per cent of the total wealth in the network. "In effect, less than 1 per cent of the companies were able to control 40 per cent of the entire network," says Glattfelder. Most were financial institutions. The top 20 included Barclays Bank, JPMorgan Chase & Co, and The Goldman Sachs Group.
John Driffill of the University of London, a macroeconomics expert, says the value of the analysis is not just to see if a small number of people controls the global economy, but rather its insights into economic stability.
Concentration of power is not good or bad in itself, says the Zurich team, but the core's tight interconnections could be. As the world learned in 2008, such networks are unstable. "If one [company] suffers distress," says Glattfelder, "this propagates."
"It's disconcerting to see how connected things really are," agrees George Sugihara of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California, a complex systems expert who has advised Deutsche Bank.
Yaneer Bar-Yam, head of the New England Complex Systems Institute (NECSI), warns that the analysis assumes ownership equates to control, which is not always true. Most company shares are held by fund managers who may or may not control what the companies they part-own actually do. The impact of this on the system's behaviour, he says, requires more analysis.
Crucially, by identifying the architecture of global economic power, the analysis could help make it more stable. By finding the vulnerable aspects of the system, economists can suggest measures to prevent future collapses spreading through the entire economy. Glattfelder says we may need global anti-trust rules, which now exist only at national level, to limit over-connection among TNCs. Bar-Yam says the analysis suggests one possible solution: firms should be taxed for excess interconnectivity to discourage this risk.
One thing won't chime with some of the protesters' claims: the super-entity is unlikely to be the intentional result of a conspiracy to rule the world. "Such structures are common in nature," says Sugihara.
Newcomers to any network connect preferentially to highly connected members. TNCs buy shares in each other for business reasons, not for world domination. If connectedness clusters, so does wealth, says Dan Braha of NECSI: in similar models, money flows towards the most highly connected members. The Zurich study, says Sugihara, "is strong evidence that simple rules governing TNCs give rise spontaneously to highly connected groups". Or as Braha puts it: "The Occupy Wall Street claim that 1 per cent of people have most of the wealth reflects a logical phase of the self-organising economy."
So, the super-entity may not result from conspiracy. The real question, says the Zurich team, is whether it can exert concerted political power. Driffill feels 147 is too many to sustain collusion. Braha suspects they will compete in the market but act together on common interests. Resisting changes to the network structure may be one such common interest.

Please don't call them capitalists. They are socialist, facists, psychopaths. They completely depend on the support of big government for their monopolies and their profits. They know it and do everything in their power to increase government power, not lessen it because they know that they control the government.
J. D. Rockefeller's most famous quote:
"Competition is a sin"
"One thing won't chime with some of the protesters' claims: the super-entity is unlikely to be the intentional result of a conspiracy to rule the world. "Such structures are common in nature," says Sugihara.
Newcomers to any network connect preferentially to highly connected members. TNCs buy shares in each other for business reasons, not for world domination."
I don't know how the authors came to that conclusion. I see more evidence to the contrary. Whether it's monopolizing and controlling the world economies, governments, environmental policies, food supply, media, healthcare, religion, education, etc., etc., it all points directly to one thing. Domination and control of the masses by a select few.
The obscenely wealthy have more than enough riches for themselves and their offspring to live lavishly for centuries to come. The Rothschild family alone, owns 50% of the world's wealth. The only possible (though admittedly insane) motivation for their insatiable thirst for more is to control and enslave the masses.
"Our analysis is reality-based."
I think not!
How about this one:
Concentration of power is not good or bad in itself, says the Zurich team, but the core's tight interconnections could be. As the world learned in 2008, such networks are unstable. "If one [company] suffers distress," says Glattfelder, "this propagates."
Please tell me how concentration of power is not a bad thing? If power is concentrated but stable then that's ok? Sounds like banker bs.
They are feeding some info to the general public and trying to spin it as "hey we are not bad just victim of the "Global Market." They are in effect saying the same BS of its not us (the banks and owners and top 1%) but them the consumers that "create" the market.
And whose reality are they speaking of... their own reality of being of the top 1% only. By trying to say it is the company that is the problem shifts the responsibity to the Corporate wealth rather than personal wealth. They are trying to pre-emptively creating a paper trail to business rather than individual... so when the shift comes they will put all corporate wealth into the 'personal wealth' and leave a shell of a corporation. This will allow them to continue growing the family dynasty and continue the collusion of the top 1% and Governement... so the shift that they are trying to manage is one from corporate ownership to private ownership... and that my friends is the rise of a Monarchial system again.
Smacks of Collusion through and through.

Clif High, like others, speak of a breakaway civilization that creatively uses our energy and the earth's resources to their own evolving end, for their own plans of advancing as they see fit for themselves.
I have believed for some time now that there is a breakaway civilization that quite likely dwarfs even the plans, hopes and dreams of the ruling class that we presume to be wrestling with.
If this is true than those behind the scenes making the erudite chess moves as per our direction of energy en masse are not only using the energies of the common peoples, but also the misdirected energies of the ruling class also.
This would put the so called 1% being focused on in the same boat as the 99% essentially, and there is maybe a 1/10th of 1% (or less) that comprises this advanced-beyond-our-comprehension breakaway civilization.
Most importantly, it means that we still have much power that we have simply been giving away in typical ignorant fashion, feeding the very well-orchestrated goals of this breakaway civilization that is the direct result of our willingness to give up our sovereignty for the ease of convenience. Can you imagine the power of a complete disengagement en masse of the current matrix construct socially engineered to keep us loving convenience, the convenience that keeps us from understanding our inherent sovereignty and abilities?
Keeps making me think back on that quote from ACIM, "you are not a body"...
Remember the TV show survivor - is it still on? The game participants were artificially divided by the producers into 2 competing camps (dems and repubs?). Then the players would scheme amoungst themselves to produce alliances that they rarely stayed true to, knowing that just one would be left. The 1% could actually be 2 people or it could actually be as much as the 90% of us that all cooperate by going to our jobs and paying our taxes - depending on how you look at things.
I have just started to listen to these tapes and am finding them quite interesting, I would be interested in others opinions of what is being said here.
Greetings from Matt Momarch
If you've started listening to the 13 hour audio series, then you are probably sitting back with a big smile on your face right now, thanking me for introducing this information to you.
You have no idea what we have stumbled upon here! For the first time in history, secret information that was only available to the “extreme elite” (illuminati, Brotherhood, Skull & Crossbones, etc) has finally leaked out to the public. Well; to us at least. When I first heard this entire series, I knew that there was more to life and that I had more ”spec!al” abilities than I was brought up to believe.
After I listened to the 13 hour audio series I’ve been mentioning, I applied the techniques and made millions of dollars. Only two weeks ago, just before I started promoting this audio series, I decided to join the speaker’s 'Global Information Network'; and am I so glad that I did!
Only two days ago I just started browsing around in there. If you loved this 13 hour audio series like I did, then you have to join this network! It's like a continuation of the audio series, but way more! In two days I've already listened to 5 hours of more audio, soaking up more “secret” information from the elite class. I can't stop!
If you liked the 13-hour audio series, then you have to sign up for this Network by clicking the link below! If you choose to sign up, you are required to enter a code to complete the sign-up process. Use the code 'RAWFOOD' and click the link below to sign up:

This Network is kind of a “secret society” in itself and you are required to accomplish specific tasks before you can move to the next level of membership, such as listen to the speaker’s audio series. It pretty much trains you to how to have, be or do anything and everything you want. How to make your dreams come true. You can also use your membership of this Network as a business. It's absolutely fascinating and incredible what has been created here. I wish that I would have signed up to the 'Global Information Network' eight months ago after I first heard the initial audio series!
Again, if you loved this 13 hour audio series, then I am extremely confident that you will love the 'Global Information Network'.

If you haven't started listening to this audio series yet, then you are in luck! I haven't been obligated to take it down quite yet. I will be keeping this audio up for just one more week. If you haven't taken the time to start listening to this audio series already, I'd suggest doing so right now! If you don't, I literally think this may be one of the biggest regrets that you will ever bear with you.
Trust me! Start listening to this audio series ASAP! You only have one week left to get 13 hours in! You won't regret it!

Hi Viveka,
I'm able to press the start arrow on the audio tab but no sound happens on my mac. I checked the volume - it's turned up. Perhaps you could just provide a link to the website?
Thanks,

All of this in this thread/discussion makes me again think of what "Hidden Hand" was talking about, being here to represent "evil", to show us with much clarity what we are not so that we might use it as catalyst to rediscover who, what and where we actually are (again)...
When ever I back up to try and see the bigger picture, I fall in line with your idea chris. I seem to end up there, no matter what the subject is these days. The material presented here sounds amazingly like that of Mark Hamilton and the society of secrets. As a matter of fact, I was offered a chance to join this "Global info Network", for a price, as their ideas fall in line with what Hamilton has been pushing for over 20 years. Google him, he is a very interesting man. He has even written a novel about how the world would change if he is elected president. He is a master at advertising, a self made billionaire. His father was a famous scientist of sorts during the bhopal incident, and was imprisoned for many years by our government. His idea is to run on the premise of eliminating government in his 4 years in office. No more president, congress, no more military, except for border defense. He actually has built and registered his party to run in the next election, but I haven't heard a thing about him...I just don't believe that he can clean up the world through "honest business". Anyways,,,the more I read his , and any others ideas about "fixin it", the more distant I seem to become from all of these ideas, because something else tells me that they all are part of the big distraction, to deter me from finding my way,,my "soverignty" , as it is called lately.........of course, if they are pushing me to that realization,,then,,bless them all ! Ha !
Amen Brother!
As for any stories about someone or some group working to "fix" the current system/paradigm, Benjamin Fulford and those he alleges to be working with have had my attention lately. As a rule I usually don't put much stock in that kind of idea, new political party is all the rage, has everyone talking, is going to clean up everything and make everything better, but Fulford is quite provocative and intriguing to say the least (if indeed there is really any truth to what he is saying is happening right now, what is being adeptly executed by those alleged secret societies he is associated with, including the alleged destruction of a few of the ruling class' underground facilities...)
all the posts with Fulford. I was making reference to the "fixin it" posts. All the info coming from fulford, Hidden Hand, etc., to me is helping me "enjoy the ride". Like a good mystery, I can't wait to see how it turns out ! I have really been enjoying all the posts here, even if I don't get involved too much. Peace to all,,,,T
Always good to hear from you from time to time. The world is a bit brighter knowing you are out there doing what you do with your awareness Todd...
Namaste
Hidden Hand represents a group that are masters of deception! We all know this, right? They want us to exercise our "free will" against their "horror show," right? When have we ever been asked if we were in agreement to have 95% of humanity destroyed to serve the enterests of the elite? Free will? When we are all dead, where is the free will? Are we in agreement about the FEMA prison camps? Free will? When were the Jews aver asked if they were in agreement to be thrown into ovens by the Nazis? Free will? And if any of you actually believe that, when we leave our bodies at death, we are all part of one big happy spiritual family on equal footing spiritually, let me tell you a secret: ages ago, the Rishis in India discovered that the final thought that we entertain prior to leaving our bodies, exactly determines what dimension we occupy afterwards. The entire system of yoga was formulated around this fact. Yogis learned to leave their bodies at will through the splitting of the crown chakra before they became old and feeble and lost control of their thought processes. The last thought determines and represents the entire life history of the individual at death. If what "hidden hand" said was true, the entire platform of karma and reincarnation would be obliterated! Neither would exist! We ARE NOT part of one homogeneous spiritual group after death! We EARN our place in the universe. Ultimately, of course, we all end up in the same place. Until that time comes, well, I suggest that you understand the continuing deception of the "Hidden Hand" group. They only are concerned about their agenda, not ours. That agenda includes the destruction of the human race. Those that remain, will eventually be replaced by synthetics, and they have alrady been introduced into the population. Don't be lulled to sleep!
You are overlooking something here Starr. The extremely small number of those initiating these atrocities could never accomplish their goals without a great number of those from the ranks of regular common folk that sign up to their agenda by way of free will.
This is exactly the point that the Hidden Hand testimony is making. By providing a catalyst that represents so called "evil", that offers exactly the opposite of who and what we actually are, we are given the opportunity over and over and over again to freely act out who we are not or rediscover who we really are. The "bad" guys are not making us do anything. The collective "we" are constantly choosing and the resulting manifestation is evident...
As long as there are those that can be attracted by power or riches of this world to do and become what they are not, then school is still in session. This is not, nor is it ever happening to us. Essentially there is only one of us here in the big picture, and that one is continuing to make the decision to exercise via sovereign free will the right to act out something it is not.
There is this ongoing struggle, as if it were one person wrestling with itself, deluding itself, rationalizing away its own involvement, projecting its delusion outward upon the world it chooses to see via free will.
We never get away from free will. It is our heritage, our birthright, our divine response-ability. One of the easiest ways to get a glimpse of how easy this is going to be when it happens is to think about that famous quote, what if there was a war and nobody came?
What if there was a Hitler and nobody joined his agenda to become his minions? What if there was a WalMart and nobody shopped there because they were too busy exercising their own free will self sufficiency? What if there were TV's and nobody bought one or watched one?
There are no victims, just belief systems that give power away. There can be no evil without our participation. Can you imagine the sense of relief and exhilaration when we collectively finally get this?
There are no bad guys, just good guys and gals being tempted to be bad. When we no longer fall for it we will be done with this nonsense and false sense of victimhood...
It is not that we will finally be free. It is that we will remember with great joy and relief that we were never not free. The illusion is so strong in this physical dimension that even those who came to help us escape got stuck in the thick soup of this very illusory phenomenal dimension.
What an amazing place! But never changes who we really are... Rationalizing the concept of us v. them and victimhood only reinforces the "problem" waiting to be solved by our collective remembering. Its going to be amazing when we have that collective epiphany!
My jury is still out on Hidden Hand, but it has long since returned and cast its vote regarding the spiritual matter that both of you are talking about. It was unanimous:
Some teachings say that we earn our place in the universe, as you say, Starr. Others say that we work to recognize or remember what that place is and always has been. Still others say that we just need to open to what we truly are -- the Brama within in the Hindu tradition, One Mind or Buddha Nature (among many other terms) in Buddhism, The Beloved in Sufism. But, terminology aside, it's the same non-dualistic, non-conceptual (i.e. experiential) truth for everyone, hence "Oneness." That's what the experienced truth is when concept-structured perception falls away. So there's a difference in language, in emphasis, but not in essence.
There are and always have been different ways to express the same thing, based on the makeup and the conditioning of the population at hand -- hence the genius of great teachers. So their teachings are sometimes dualistic because some folks are caught in that construct and so have to proceed within it. (It's called "upaya", or skillful means. It's about entering someone's delusion so they can be led out of it.) Far fewer teachings lessen or even try to eliminate dualism altogether if there are people at hand who can work with the spiritual thing "straight up". Examples of "straight up" would be, "True Self is No Self" (Zen) and "The eye with which I see God is the same as the eye with which God sees me" (Meister Eckhart). Can we catch the sense of that?
So there are dualistic and non-dualistic teachings in every tradition, and there have to be, in order to serve the broad range of receptivity in the population. The problem is that when we think almost exclusively dualistically we're absolutely certain that the non-dualistic ("Oneness") view is wrong. That's why the devotional adherents of any given religion tend not to accept the "mystical" branch of their own religion, whereas the "mystical" adherents who have experienced Oneness, however briefly, understand the mystical view of all religions or paths.
So... I'm left with what I'm always left with: We know (with our thinking minds) a lot less than we think we do. There's a whole lot more to be experienced outside of the parameters and "truths" that our minds construct than we can even imagine. Let's leave the door open for it.
Love all the comments. Starr, I felt so much fear while reading yours, it lends strength to Chris's point..And I don't believe anyone knows the truth. I don't believe any religion ,or yogi holds more than 10 percent truth...Having died myself in a chemical explosion when I was 21, in a slow motion, burning , blast, I saw beautiful light, and experienced pure,,,peace, while I watched myself laying face down on the ground, partially on fire.....I do believe that a person's belief system can affect his/her experience at death, but only for a short time, before connecting with the "absolute", or whatever you prefer to call it..Of course, the words "short time", don't really apply here, because time stops...or doesn't exist, at that point. I was gone for what seemed like a long time, but here it was only 30 seconds or so...
I have been told by a few Buddhists that whenever Buddha , and many others considered "enlightened ones", made a leap in their spiritual practice, they would renounce everything they had taught up to that point, as they had gained a new understanding of the world. I would assume that they had reached another level, closer to the planck scale, more energetic, a bigger picture, so their teaching from that point on came from a new place, closer to the source..When i first heard the idea that we are all zero point, and fluctuate off that point, it changed my life, especially my taiji practice. The movements didn't matter anymore, I just focused on my center moving a small distance, and the movements I had thought so hard about for so long just happened as a result of that "fluctuation". I later cross referenced this to "condensing and expanding" from zero, and my understanding changed again. Now i see myself as a "bag of neurons", condensing and expanding, just,,,,alive...
I am no Yogi, no master, no guru,,,and yet i am,,experiencing those same things on a personal level,,,finding my way,,,,becoming, slowly, what Chris is talking about,,and when I get close enough,,,I will no longer need the experience of duality to show me what I really am....and have been , all along
Love you all,,,,T
I found this comment extremely intriguing and would love it if you could possibly expand elaborate upon what you said here,
"The movements didn't matter anymore, I just focused on my center moving a small distance, and the movements I had thought so hard about for so long just happened as a result of that "fluctuation"."
What made you think about moving a "small distance" (as if less were more like the exponential increase of energy as one approaches zero point on the planck scale)?
Peace with no opposite, mmmmm
i have found taiji to be the perfect example of duality,,I could also call it a mindfuck ! ha ! Especially the first few years. We try to imitate these movements that the teacher is doing,,completely left brained, thinking that once we do them right, something wonderful is going to happen....welll, It does feel great to finish learning a form, especially after 2 years of your teacher telling you you suck..(that was my old world teacher's style).
Anyways, once you learn a form, then you have to figure out what to do with it. Changing it from external to internal, or, left brained to right brained, is the trick..Everything about it is dualistic. The same position(Fairy weaving at the shuttle), that is a block and chest blast,,,is also , if held in a standing position, a tremendous heart healing exercise, part of the 5 elements..All you do is switch the state of the left and right hands, one is soft, receiving, and the other has force,giving....see where Im going..Then, looking at it as a martial art, if it is used in self defense, in a loving way, nothing personal about it, just returning one's energy back to them to experience themselves, there would be no taking on of Karma, for those who worry about that.
ok, about zero point. ...Around the time that "what the bleep",and Lynn mcTaggart's book came out, I was fascinated by the thought of us being zero point energy, and fluctuating off that point. It helped me let the form go. Instead of "performing the moves" of the form, as I do everyday, I stayed at my center, kept my mind there, you know, the dan tien below the navel. I was just shifting my weight, the footwork, keeping my mind down low, so my center actually was only moving a small distance...every move we make should originate from our center, like an infants, so when I kept my mind there, the movements just flowed out of my center more naturally than ever before, each one manifesting as it should, and when my center shifted,or changed direction, that initiated the transition from one movement to the next......and, the best part was, I had let go of the left brain, and was operating from spirit.....
Later, when I added the thought of condensing and expanding off the center, everything changed again. watching something like a big jellyfish condense and expand to move through the water is a great example. Condensing is like breathing in through every pore in your body at once,,,like imploding, or shrinking from every direction at once on an inhale,,down to your center, truly "empty", zero point, then expanding out in every direction from zero on the exhale,,from the planck scale to infinity,,,,or, at least to the end of the movement,,Ha ! Birth of a universe in every breath.. Yi leading chi, or, the mind leading energy to the hand or foot where the movement ends, then transitioning to the next. Many teachers use the word send, which implies pushing the energy to that point, but that is like trying to push water, ,,,Lead it with the mind from zero point, and it will follow. The slower you can go, the faster you can go, as the mind can perform any action of the body much faster than the muscle. It is electric, and develops the use of the tendons,as opposed to the muscles..Which lead me to the "bag of neurons" phase.
I love this term, and all the new ,or newly remembered Physics surrounding it. It implies that anything is possible. So now I am a bag of jellyfish tentacles, condensing and expanding, back to zero, then out, then back,etc....The daily practice is to keep trying to extend those tentacles out into the universe. One of the few posts I have made on this site was by a guy named Daniel Villasenor, one of my previous teachers. He has started a few schools now teaching "moga", yoga and qiqong in the same class. If you are thinking about your energy, and how you interact with the universe, go back to youtube and punch in his name, there are 2 videos of him being interviewed on an Italian tv station. Listen to the way he explains the difference between yoga and qiqong, it is key to understanding how we interact with the world,or universe, or just within ourselves. He speaks about Confronting ourself every day in practice,,and I relate that to my search for who I truly am......Every day is different doing the form, my favorite thing about it.......
Condensing and expanding can be done on an inhale or an exhale...Part of the mindfuck, ha!
By the way Chris, I love the out,,peace with no opposite, makes me think of times ahead...
Thanks Todd, that was absolutely deeeeelicious, and so well put from such a rich extensive body of personal experience. Knowing just enough to always be in a state of becoming, the Heart and Soul of the Original Thought and Intention...
The Peace with no opposite is one of my favorite quotes from "Teacher", leader of the meditation group in James Twyman's book, Emissary of Light. A very inspiring read to say the least, but that line, there is so much in that line. There is nothing but Peace essentially. All that one would say is absolutely not Peace is simply the Universe making room for any experience. When the water is still, all has no choice but to return to Origin, Peace with no opposite...
As the good doctor said in ACIM, another one of my favorite exquisitely simple and to the point quotes,
"Nothing Real can be threatened"
"Nothing unreal exists"
"Herein lies the Peace of God" (or)
Herein lies what can never go away just because I am being distracted by an experience seemingly contrary to what is Real,
Peace with no opposite (there can be no opposite to the only thing that is really real)...
Man, the explosion of Heart inspiring and inspired thought that went through my mind when I read that line for the first time in Emissary of Light. There is such a well described core truth in that book concerning what the collective we must and will finally do here on Gaia to transcend the oh so tired nonsense we have collectively studied ad nauseum...

Hi Viveka-
I'm slowly digesting your post. It's getting frustrating how slowly he is pouring out the information but since someone at the g-spot recommended it I'm determined to stick it out. It feels like he is using a lot of subtle mind control techniques. I never in a million years would have listened past tape 1 if you hadn't recommended it. I think I'm at tape 5 now and I have to say that some of the information does seem worth while so I'm glad I stuck it out.
I intend to report back once I've gone through most of it.
Wendy
Must admit that the task of listening to all of those tapes is not completed by myself either.... Not sure if I will.... Like you found him quite monotonous but with some points of interest. what is interesting is that all this is being opened up now. That what was once hidden is now revealed. Anyway will listen some more and get back to you.
Peace and Love
