What are we Awakening too ?

      It is a more "simplified" view, and I mean that in a good way..There are so many "WAYS",,,it is easy to overload on all of them. We all share information here,,and it is up to each of us to do with it what we will. If it calls to you,,,then pursue it !!!  My views have also become "simpler" over the last couple of years...I used to overload on all the "atrocities" that we commit against ourselves,,,and the same can happen with all the "remedies"....Once I felt that I had "gotten over myself",,ha!, things started getting simpler for me....Like I keep "backing up",,,or, detaching a little more. I still "feel" the pain,,and the joy,,,but not as personally as I used to,,,,,more as the "observer"...That word is used a lot these days,,but it fits here...To me, it means,,"looking at the bigger picture"....so it helps me to be more at ease,,and recognize that the countless things that are happening everyday ,,the "good", and the "bad", are all just part of the ride,,,they are all helping us on our way,,,,,,to wherever we are going !  Instead of always "trying" to change myself,,,I am letting what I observe take me there ,,,more gracefully..It feels better than trying to "force it"...I am confident that we will get there,,,L,,,,T

I've appreciated GK's take on this general subject ever since the first time I heard him speak of the balance between so called Light and dark, and how you can get just as stuck in the "Light" as you can get stuck in the "dark", and regardless of which, still be stuck in a controlling matrix in spite of the experience of bliss on the Lighter side or the weight of fear and dread on the darker side.  One could truly believe they have ascended when they are still well within the controlling manipulated paradigm who's polarities are light and dark, plus and minus.

When I hear GK talk about these things my mind goes to the image of the vesica piscis, the portal intersection of two circles representing the dualistic polarized nature of this particular density...

Ian - what are we awakening to? - I would say, we are awakening to what we actually are and always have  been. How we speak of that  however gets sticky and can become frustrating because all beliefs, frames of reference, concepts and words are contained within that  and thus, cannot re-present that. This is the classic dilemma of the finger pointing at the moon; the point is not the finger.

How many paths are there to our freedom? How many of us are there? Each of us must find our own way utilizing whatever information and guidance we happen to access during our journey. And each of us will follow whatever path(s) we are drawn to for as long as it seems to serve us. At least, this is what I have done.

It can be observed that some paths are circular and repetitive; they don't lead anywhere fruitful (for me, anyway). Some paths are effective but very gradual; there are changes but the progress seems so  slow. A few paths, such as Advaita, Kashmiri Shaivism, Dzogchen, Mahamudra, some lineages of Taoism, Sufism and Zen - that I know of - there may be others I am not aware of,  are described as fruitional; meaning that they take the end as the means. Another way of saying this is that we already are what we are looking for; once this is pointed out and recognized the re-recognition is the path until it becomes obvious and continuous in all situations and circumstances.

In my own case I have traveled a ways on each of these distinctive kinds of paths during this life time. As I am now 62 years old and, from both what I have learned and from my own experience, I have found the fruitional path more interesting, faster and more effective. This, of course, is simply my choice as it is my choice to share what I have discovered for myself with whoever appears interested. If this is not for you, Ian, or anyone else, I wholly support you, by all means, to follow your own guidance.

...on the overload of all the different sources of "truth" is that if they were telling the truth, they would all say the same thing. The only consistencies are that we, the universe and the creator are all one and that we are co-creators that can create exactly the world we wish if only we could all agree on what that is (you know we never will). I have pretty much come to the conclusion that I will just work on creating my own world and let that contribution to the whole just be whatever it is. A little piece of Native American wisdom sums it up I think. "Rather that dwell on what should be DONE, DO what can be done. You might just accomplish what should be done."

What you are saying is what my wife and I found as we engaged a variety of teachers from a variety of traditions, and no tradition, in conversations about what their "awakening," "realization," or "enlightenment" was/is like; they all used different languaging but they all said the same thing.

Is there only one "truth" or does each of us have our own perception of truth which may differ from person to person?  I think John's other thread http://www.gatheringspot.net/topic/general-discussion/valuable-support-awakening sheds light on this question.  For although John was attempting, with the best of intentions, to share "a valuable support for awakening" the thread revealed that one man's truth is not necessarily another's. 

I, too, am a bit puzzled by the reactions by some to John's request for feedback.  The time spent criticizing his request might have been better spent exploring whether the information he shared was of value.  Afterall, sharing information is rather like setting food on a buffet table.  A variety of things are laid out for you to pick and choose what you like and ignore what you don't like.  No one says you have to like everything.  I'd hate to see someone like Lightwins leave this site due to continued criticism of his posts.  Without his input, the content at the Gathering Spot would most likely have much fewer new posts to read.

On another note...

I'd like to comment on this rather popular view about the polarities/dualities paradigm.  Some folks here believe that the light and the dark, good and the bad, etc. should be balanced or reconciled.  They villainize any talk that suggests such a thing as "us vs. them."  I've entertained this notion for awhile now and played with the idea as best I can.  Not fully understanding the concept, I've tried practicing in my own way how this "balancing" concept might manifest, but I have to tell you, it still doesn't feel right to me.  I've come to the point where I think the idea might just be part of the disinformation camp.

One of the reasons I feel this way is that any accounts I've heard about personal experiences with the Divine is one of absolute love and light.  Those who have achieved high spiritual connections through meditation, hallucinagenic drugs, or near death experiences describe a pure white light and boundless, unconditional love.  Never is there any mention of some midway point or a merging of two dualities between lightness and darkness. Never is evil viewed as a valid, natural state of being. There is only light and love.

I believe that there is only one creative Source in the universe.  Those who embrace darkness are simply turning away from the light that is inherent in the allness of everything.  As evidence of this, one need only look at the destructive, parasitic behaviors of the "dark ones."  How or why would the Divine Intelligent Source create both life and "anti-life"?  I think it makes more sense that love, light, compassion, altruism, goodness, etc. are natural creations; and that the dark one's fallen angel (Lucifer) manifested the opposite attributes simply by turned away from the light.

I welcome your thoughts on this.

IMHO & in my reasoned assessment, All-That-Is is one. At the beginningless beginning, as a means of exploring "its" infinite potentiality the one-that-is expressed itself as a multiplicity of self-conscious sparks of itself. In at least this "corner" of itself there is free will for all such sparks of the one to explore an illusion of separation from the one complete with an appearance of polarized dualities; which we all have done.

For contrast and to provide a mutual catalyst to develop along our chosen lines some of us sparks are choosing or have chosen a path of service-to-self and others among us are choosing or have chosen a path of service-to-others and, some of us are still trying out both paths to determine which suits them.

Eventually, all paths converge at the top of the mountain, so to speak, simply because All-That-Is is one and each apparently separate spark, such as us, gradually and inevitably evolve through successive integrations of complexity into the re-cognition of our intrinsic interconnectedness and our uniquely positioned embeddedness within the one that is All-That-Is.

The recognition of our interconnectedness and embeddedness and our common-unity has been dawning in our human species of consciousness for a while now. Witness the ascendancy of systems theory and ecological understandings, the creation of the internet, the growing global consciousness, the rapidly increasing number and visibility of satsang and dharma teachers and communities, the Transformation Team and the G-spot, Thrive, etc., etc.

Simultaneously, there are (at least) two dimensions of awakening IMO. There is a global awakening to the fact that we've all been deceived by the elite (Occupy, the original expressions of the Tea Party, etc.) and there is a groundswell of indviduals awakening to the intrinsic nature of our mind and out of the habituated, conditioned mind-world/dream-body of separation and polarized duality we have imagined we have been living in.

Interestingly, in the last 40 years, chaos theory has emerged and been developed, which, IMO, helps us understand what we are going through, both individually and as a species of consciousness. (Illya Prigogine was awarded a Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1977) for his understanding of Dissipative Structures which describes the process by which all complex, open systems evolve new structures)

Basically, all complex, relatively discrete systems are open to their environment, are composed of sub-systems and their dynamic processes involve the exchange of and utilization of energy and/or information. In this way the maintain their dynamic stability. At a certain point in their process however, either because of a change in their environment or because of an internal change or both, the fluctuations of the dynamic processes within the system exceeds the capacity of the system's current structure to contain it.

As a system crosses its "instability threshold," its old structure dissipates; it then moves through a period of apparent disorganization or chaos, and a new pattening of the system's dynamics emerges, coallessing around "morphic seeds" which existed within the old - now dissipated - structure.

The system's emergent structure stabilizes and incorporates the formerly uncontainable fluctuations at a higher order of integration.

Some examples include our scientific paradigm moving from Newton to Einstein, any human moving through puberty and our human species of consciousness now moving into "global," or "unity" consciousness, IMO.

As I see it, this is what we signed up for. It appears to me that the dissipation is well under way -
"the center cannot hold." We are all in for the ride of our lives.

Again, IMO, if we have some access to our open intelligence, we can be a calm and steady beacon in the storm and we can be available to assist others in their understanding of WTF is going on.

...according to a lot of the channeled material that I've seen, we have been living in 3rd density; which is  the density in which we choose whether we want to evolve STS or STO. And according to that same material, the service-to-self crew and the service-to-others crew are about to part ways as we are on the cusp of moving into 4th density - wherein we explore what it is like to live together as a much more collective consciousness (either STS or STO).

I believe this is what's up for us at this time.

Gosh, those are incredibly good insights, John!

       if we were immortal, there would always be tomorrow , or the next day...Many people live like that now anyways, and don't have the "revelation" unless they have a near death experience,,or sadly, until they are on their deathbed...I had a NDE at 21,,and ,being so young,,the "revelation" didn't last long. It took more experiences like that to rattle my brain. 

       Then again, when I think about it,,if we could all just live in the present,,,the length of our lives wouldn't matter, as we would cultivate so much in our given time...But,,I also believe that living in the present would extend our lives exponentially, as theoretically, disease , and other detrimental things, can't live in the present, they are associated with time, eating away at an imbalanced soul...Terminal illnesses are a great wake up call for change, and can lead one out of that matrix,  into the moment, and back to good health, and vitality. 

  Chris, my mind is also floating in the vesica pisces,,,,,Is this where we are headed??? the vesica pisces is represented by the number 3. The 3 remembers the one.. the 2,, circles " create"  the vesica pisces, which is the third, It incorporates the two. So,it is like the end of duality......

    If we are approaching the end of the need for duality,,,this would explain why no one is sure exactly WHAT is going on !! Our thoughts and reasonings,,even our meditations, are built on duality, we have been here for a long time ! So how could we accurately predict where we are headed ??=? 

    There are millions of ways to get wherever that is,,,but to me,,,the simpler the better ! I like the,,"throw away everything you know" method, as it helps me to believe that there ARE infinite possibilities. The fewer the " oh no, that couldn't happen because....s"  , there are floating around in my head,,,the more possibilities I am open to !!!! We are truly living in a WONDER-ful time ! ,,,L,,,,T
