10 Preperation Tips for 2012

OK, so I write a newsletter for my company and thought this list might be helpful here.  Any comments, improvements, or additions, please let me know.  Enjoy!

2012 Survival Kit

1)       Stay Optimistic – If this means not watching the news channels at night, then do it.  Sometimes it can be difficult to stay positive when you are surrounded by negativity.  Also be sure to watch who you spend your time with.  Stay away from emotionally draining people.

2)      Live in the Present Moment – This can be difficult to do since most people spend most of the time in their head either on the past or future.  That leaves little time to enjoy the present moment.  Take a walk, play with your kids, and just be happy to be in the moment.

3)      Enjoy your life – This goes along with number 2.  It doesn’t necessarily matter what you’re doing in life.  Since you are a unique person, you have a unique perspective on life.  Plus you have you distinctive talents and skills to contribute to this Earth.

4)      Recycle and Don’t Waste – The Earth is hurting.  We need to do our part to help.  This doesn’t mean you have to start a charity or grow a garden (although those are both good ideas).  What it does mean is don’t litter, recycle, and reduce your carbon footprint if possible.

5)      Exercise – Take care of your body.  It’s the only one you’ve got and it is priceless.  Just not liking the gym is not enough of an excuse.  You could try badminton, yoga, hiking, rock climbing, etc.  These are all fun activities that are also great exercise.

6)      Eat Right – You don’t have to become a vegetarian or vegan (although it certainly does hurt).  Maybe you could try cutting down on some meats and try some organic food.  It may be a little more expensive, but it’s worth it in the end.

7)      Have an Open Mind – We live in extremely interesting times.  There is a lot at stake in the world as much now as there ever has been.  There is a lot of information out there in the world today with smart phones and the like. Learn, but be careful what you take in and send out.

8)      Do Random Acts of Kindness –This not only improves your day, but somebody else’s as well.  There is a certain ripple or butterfly effect that takes place from these random acts of kindness.  You can never know how much can be affected.

9)       Take care of our new generation – Some people have noticed how their world view is very different than previous generation.  If can, try to reduce the amount of violence they see in video games and on television.

10)   Smile – You not only make yourself feel better when you smile, you also improve the day of the ones who see you smile.  They are contagious and can spread very quickly.  While we’re at it, you should also remember to laugh as much as possible.  Haha!

These are good ideas and I will start laying extra supplies for the hard times.  When smiles are in short supply I will be able to go to my stash.  The same for optimism and random acts of kindness and the rest.

Thanks again

These are good, Nick.

For #2, I also pet my cat.  The bond of love between us amplifies and radiates exponentially and we enjoy moments of unhurried beingness together.  He's my happy thought.

I'm glad you mentioned #7.  Maybe offer a suggestion like, "forget what you think you know" so that you are an empty vessel to receive new information.

#8 is one of my favs. Smile

Look for a typo in #9.

Additional tips?  Keep your sense of humor/don't take life too seriously, go with the flow, etc.

I wish my company newsletter had articles like yours.  How refreshingly progressive!
