I don't have anything wise or smart to say right now, but I was hoping to open up a healthy dialogue on here. I like talking to you all and would like anybody to reply with something, anything that they want to say. I am willing to read it, but I have some quick rules.
1. It should be your own words (i.e. no articles or videos from other people)
2. It should be healthy (i.e. no negativity please)
3. Questions are encouraged (nobody may know the answers, but sometimes the question is more important than the answer)
4. Make your own rules (i.e. if you want to trump any or all rules, no worries)
5. Please join the discussion
id like to share something... when it comes to discussion / communication in general, iv come to understand that words are symbols we interpret threw are own perspectives / being. The word may have a or multiple definitions, but theses grow evolve change and are different for different people. Then there is the shift in perspectives from one another that can often compound this issue.
lol ill use a simple example (poor bill haha) (i did not have sexual relations with that women) later when it came out that he got a blowjob he said a blowjob isn't sex to him.. now i not sure he just wasn't being manipulative but it clearly show how a play on words can have different means to different people, even if it seems straight forward are believes impact the symbols(words) greatly and thus interpretations
So id like to start with this topic on healthy discussion by playing with the idea that even when persons are trying to communicate 100% truthfully misinterpretation is still a high possibility. I think for healthy communication it would help for this to be know so conclusions are not jumped to too quickly so we can limit the amount of misinterpretations (miscommunication). I don't think we stop misinterpretations but threw simple measure's mediate there effect and communicate more fully with one another.
I'm open to other suggestion but ill label what has help me much when i have applied them.
when explaining an important point, saying it more then 1 time and in different ways (sometimes it helps)/ using examples
asking if they understand what your saying(sometimes ask them to repeat what you said if your in high doubt)
asking them questions / repeating to them what you interpreted from what they said (are you saying...? is this what you mean... can you say that for me again)
carrying a general respect to the other and desire to understand the way the other is seeing it
I don't believe much in absolutes but this has helped me be understood better and to understand others better. Along with excepting and even enjoying at times when we are not in agreement and see things differently. I don't often back down from my view i will share it and endever to understand another's yet i will be honest, and am learning more how to structure it in a way that is not meant in offense to them but bring light to the way i see it and perhaps why i see it that way (if i can) often even if my view did not change and become enlightened my the others i would gain an enlightenment with something else, just the ability to understand bring rewards even if i don't agree
that is my sharing so far i hope that may be of interest to some
much peace and love, may we see threw each others eyes better <3
I get pleasure from seeing someone suffer (minor suffering) after screwing me over. I was driving to work one fine morning. As I was trying to merge into interstate highway traffic with many others in front of me I was being tailgated and honked at by a frantic young guy who was probably late for work(so was I). He was extremely agitated and rude to me. As I pulled into the rightmost lane, he recklessly swept around me and shot into faster traffic to my left. It was a shockingly dangerous move but guess what kind of car he cut off: A state trooper! I was laughing and howling with delight. It was better than hitting him with a pie in the face (or a fist).
Hi all,
I have just gone back to my yoga studies and thiswas in one of the lessons and I found it interesting,
What does reincarnate, in endless rounds of birth after birth, is the chain of associational thinking that eternally goes on within all of us. Each thought is a birth and each cessation of the thought is a death. The tendency for us is to recycle our thoughts in ever-recurring patterns. This is the first form of reincarnation we need to come to grips with
I'm never great with rules...lol....hope this might inspire something within......which is what I think we are looking for here.....I see everything as consciousness and while I can't seem to express it this speaks to me deeply of how I work....what and who I am......
Hey Brian,
I am with you there, if i can laugh at myself for doing something stupid like that, and I have....., why not laugh at someone else who does it......my fav humour......hehe...that homer Simpson "doh" moment is priceless...
Hi Brian,
Yes, that is not revenge but joy in seeing a well deserved lesson given, like watching a child take a little bump and then be more careful - definitely a good thing as long as we have the compassion to know that we are all capable of making similar mistakes ourselves.
Noa, I agree with you about the law of attraction - it doesn't work for me more than 50% of the time! (not much of a law huh?) I have also had good positive results from thinking negative thoughts! Not, immoral thoughts but I have not liked my job for the longest time and so obviously have negative thoughts during work but I have yet to get fired or even have a bad review and even got a promotion (although minor). But I think we get the best rewards of happiness when we aren't "keeping score", just playing for fun.
Nick, you recently posted a question about the idea of 'embracing the darkside.' I have struggled with understanding this concept myself. I don't have much in the way of answers but I'm conducting a little experiment on the subject. I hope that after reading your ground rules my confession won't be judged too harshly.
Many of you here may remember my doubting the validity of the "Law of Attraction." My viewpoint is based solely upon observing the L of A (or the lack of it) within the context of my life. I make no presumptions about its application to anyone else's life. To recap briefly, I have observed that I've attracted some of the most bizarre situations and crazy people into my life precisely at the times when I've been most focused on loving thoughts and deeds. It seems as though (at least in my case) that I have a tendency to attract the opposite of what I'm putting out.
So recently, I gave up being 'good' briefly and embraced the darkside for a little while to see what would happen. This was in response to three freakish incidents of 'bad luck' which occurred within the same month. The last of the three events was a personal attack that was so bizarre and unfounded that I found myself giving back in equal measure and negativity to my attacker.
In the past, I've taken the high road and turned the other cheek, but rather than reaping any reward for good behavior, it usually leaves me feeling like a doormat because the negative cycle continues. So this time I allowed myself to indulge in some sinful revenge. It's not my nature to do so; it took some effort to find some joy in it. But afterward, I felt like I had somehow balanced the polarity.
Some people claim that too many new-agers are unwittingly doing more harm than good. The argument is that by only focusing on the positive, while denying the negative, they are creating an imbalance that then must be balanced by creating the opposite of what they are intending to manifest. In effect, too much positive thinking ultimately attracts its negative counterpart. This is an interesting concept to me especially since it makes sense of the nonsensical patterns I've been experiencing for so long.
Time will tell what may come from my less than honorable deed.
Thanks everyone for the responses. I just want to say a couple of things.
Noa, I don't think the high road is always the best. Sometimes, the low road is the road less travelled and can be the best in my opinion. If you've read some of my other posts, you may know I really enjoy to partake in some "bad" behaviors such as smoking, drinking, etc.
Does that make me worse than the religious people who judge me for it? I don't think so, but I love to sit back and watch how it makes their skin boil. It's similar to Brian's enjoyment for someone taking responsibility for their actions. I enjoy seeing that sort of thing too.
In response to the LOA, the most difficult time is today. We plant the seeds today for tomorrow, so to speak. It is not instant. That is the difficult part. We harvest from yesterday. Once again, it takes time, but I have seen some fruits.
I believe karma does not come in the form of money, a beautiful spouse, etc. It comes in the form of happiness. It is an endless cycle that is hard to overcome. Sometimes there are past life things to overcome and sometimes it was a response to yesterday, so to speak.
I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses and I hope to read more.
Peace and Love
