Animated map of Middle East

The link below takes you to an animated map of the Middle East, showing the waves of influence and empire in that part of the world.  It begins with the Egyptians, about 1500 BCE, and runs up through 2006.  It takes 90 seconds.

very interesting...the power struggle is constant. it amazes me to watch this. it shows the vastness of the controling empires. and also how they are ''temporary''.

thanks for the post.

Put's 'em in perspective, too.  With our heritage based on Rome, we tend to think it was the greatest, the highest expression of human organization and potential.  Far from it.  The Romans were great organizers and exploiters.  They built great works but invented nearly nothing.  They did give us cement, and the corporation.  Many empires were larger than the Roman Empire.  One that did not show on the map was the Mali Empire of the 13th century, which encompassed all of North Africa, and had the world's finest universities.  It's interesting to observe how we've conquered and progressed technologically while making so little spiritual progress.  I'm hoping that is about to change.
