Just the Black Notes

Thanks for sharing, John.  I've been singing my whole life and this is the first time I've heard about black-key spirituals.

Here is a comment on the youtube site about the video:

Wintley himself called me december of 2009 to pray with me over the phone and thanked me for helping touching lives through posting this video. It meant so much to me and i'd like to thank him.

THANK YOU MR. PHIPPS. GOD HAS USED YOU. IT WAS JUST WHAT I NEEDED AND ITS NICE TO KNOW THAT YOU TRULY ARE A KIND, GODLY MAN. THANK YOU FOR YOUR MINISTRY.
THIS IS MY MOST VIEWED VIDEO!! PERIOD!! YAY!! :)

NOTE TO ALL VIEWERS: many of you have missunderstood what he said. He did NOT say an african american wrote the words to amazing grace. He never argued that John Newton was not an englishmen, so stop pointing it out! He just said that John Newton was a slave trader and he was. Most of you are so concentrated on black and white, you are missing the point of the whole video!! He is trying to send out a message that God intended for all of us to be united. Weather you agree with the details or not, the message he is trying to send is a good one. So lighten up and take the hint!!

When I posted this video, I had absolutely no idea how popular it would become.

Anyone who thinks my intention is to "misinform" or to show any disregard to any race or culture obviously knows nothing about me.

This is a great video, and I love wintley phipps and so I decided to share. I did not expect it to be so huge!!

Of course we all agree that John Newton was in fact a slave trader. Thats the whole point. GRACE. That God can change the hardest of hearts within time if they'll listen. All the other stuff, is just stuff.

As far as not posting most of the ones that try to "correct" his views, it was simply to not cause a riot, the few times I have posted negative comments it caused a big debate between that person and my subscribers and especially considering this video has become so popular and so many people watch it, I wanted to avoid a big, long debate. That's it. So please dont be unkind to me and make allegations about my intentions to my subscribers when you are 100% percent wrong about me. I am anything but racist and I dont see how me posting this video would make me a racist, me posting this video means that i'm for unity between races. I have gotten into big long arguements with people multiple times because they made a racist remark. I am the opposite of racist. So please stop saying that because it's just not true and it hurts my feelings.

I have been all over the internet for 15 years and heard and seen some amazing things, but this video moved me more than all others, for a variety of reasons. Thanx for sharing, John.

The black slaves who came over here on slave ships all had one thing in common: fear, persecution, humiliation, tremendous courage and strength and a connection to that "something" we all call God, and in many ways there seems to be similarities between those slaves and the Native Americans, both of whom were treated disgacefully by whites. They were all connected to a truth know as "Oneness" and they were able to reach into their hearts and touch that "something" that became their only meaningful reality and their "Amazing Grace". That something is inside each of us and can be recognized through sound and music, and that sound from the heart inspired the words to a sound so pure and full of love that even a man who believed in slavery, such as captain of a slave ship, could be a wretch saved by the sound of the heart. You don't have to be a christian to understand love and compassion, something taught by many slaves to their white "masters". That love transcends any and all color barriers and is the one element within all of us that will pull us through onto a different time line that those who do not understand love will never be able to reach until they do!
