Shocking: Millions of Americans Subsist on $2 or Less per Day

I know that the income gap between the rich and the poor has been increasing at alarming rates over the past decade, but I was shocked to learn that millions of AMERICAN children get by on less than $2 a day.  In a third world country, where the cost of living is lower, that might be do-able but what the heck can you buy with 2 bucks in the USA?

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness you are more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.

The End of Poverty?

Having known homeless people myself, I'm always wary of politicians claims to wipeout homelessness and poverty. They clearly don't understand that for many it is a life choice. They definitely don't understand that poverty is an attitude, not a lifestyle. I've known "middle class" people who work 2 jobs, sacrifice a decent relationship with their children, and are ashamed or worried about the looks of their car or home. These people would never be classified as impoverished by the politicians.

This podcast of Mohammed Yunus at the Commonwealth Club was broadcast on NPR today. I found it a true inspiration. Dr Yunus is knowledgable, practical, and has a great vision, which he presents with poise, authority and humor. A stunning listen.
