Signs of Hope Amid the Rubble

This morning I've been reading online news items. Very little of it looks like good news. I watched a video on YouTube of a shanty town - a tent city near Los Angeles. That video's misleading, as it implies that the occupants are victims of the housing bubble. Actually, they are homeless folks who've gathered together for company and protection, and there are no families there that have been forced out of their homes. Nevertheless, this is what seems to be coming. I read an article from the New York Times about the continuing costs of the Bush's wars and what it is doing to the nation. All very gloomy. Nevertheless I find hope in all the bad news.

One of our biggest fears is the establishment of a police state. Police forces are no longer the friendly, helpful cop on the beat. They are now paramilitary squads of thugs, one of the chief dangers to minorities and low-income people instead of their protectors. There have been stories of concentration camps built and ready to be stuffed with American citizens; plans to insert chips under our skin and monitor us from space; surveillance day and night, a national ID card, and on and on.

These things cost money. And, thanks to our friends in Washington, that is one thing this country does not have. We are bankrupt. There will be no police state, friends. Our cities are running out of money to pay police and buy equipment. Eventually, when this country is exhausted, drained and prostrate, the wars will wind down. Then we will spend 50 years rebuilding and regaining our honor. The Bush League will go down in history as one of the most evil regimes of all time.

We all know George W. Bush wasn't honestly elected but placed in power by fraud. The Illuminati, or whoever it is that's pulling his strings, has misjudged. He was chosen for his position because of his lack of intelligence, but they misjudged his desire for a legacy of his own. He has damaged their plans. The international bankers still have tons of money, but that money is not worth what it was.

Meanwhile, a new consciousness is sweeping the globe. Folks are getting off the train. People are homesteading new territory, under the radar and apart from The System we've all grown to know and love. The authorities are finding themselves dealing more and more with Indigos and not sheep.

I've worried about the establishment of federally-funded, privately-owned prisons. They receive funds based on the number of prisoners, so the incentive is to lock up as many people as possible. It is a fact that the United States imprisons more of its own population than any nation on earth. The logical extension of the trend is that everyone will someday be behind bars, either as a guard or a prisoner. Once again I find hope in the fact that there is no money. Even with free prison labor to build 'em, it costs money to buy materials to build more prisons. And those who work there are civilians. They have no loyalty beyond their paycheck. Take that away, and we will see our prison system begin to shrink. No more will people be thrown in jail for having a joint or for simply being black, or being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I have always said that by its very nature, government is ill-equipped to solve problems. The best solutions are simple and elegant. Government by definition is a bloated bureaucracy, incapable of simple solutions.

Ever so slowly, we are seeing a re-emergence of virtue. It is coming from the grassroots. More and more people are realizing what a gang of criminals we have allowed to take the reins of government and corporate power, and they are reacting with disgust and anger. I believe we are in for a time of chaos and extreme difficulty for every American. I also believe wholeheartedly that we will be better for it.

Yes, the Divine is at work everywhere and in everything. We shouldn't be surprised at all that is happening. We have dozens of prophecies that tell us just what is coming. George Bush thinks he is God's instrument, and I agree with him. I don't think Bush realizes what his true function is - to bring down the United States. Events are being guided by a Supreme Intelligence. I have hope.

I have to remind myself constantly that it is apparently quite human to pay far less attention to the bad news than to the good news, though I wish I understood why that is.

I think it's conditioning. We like drama. We are so conditioned to expect it that when our lives aren't dramatic enough, we go searching for it. Calm and happy sounds so boring, even though we all say we want to live that way.

I find it exhausting to have to constantly re-boot my morale after reading the news on TruthOut or other websites where the news is so predominantly bad.

Yes, I know what you mean! For a long time - years, actually - I did not watch TV or follow the news at all. I set aside time now for exploring world events. I get up early and read the world press because I know the American press is useless. As I've been posting, I've learned to find hope in news that seems bad to most people. Maybe I'm just a little crazy.

Aquene, I read many news sources, and I take them all with a grain of salt - in some cases an entire bucket of salt!  Here are some that I visit regularly:

The Guardian (UK) http://www.guardian.co.uk/

Rense.com (carry salt!)  http://rense.com/

Al-Jazeera (Saudi) http://english.aljazeera.net/English

China Daily http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/

ABC News (mainstream American; almost comically useless) http://abcnews.go.com/

The Hindu - India's National Newspaper  http://www.hinduonline.com/

Jerusalem Post  http://www.jpost.com/

Top U.S. papers  http://www.50states.com/news/

IPS - Inter Press Service http://www.ipsnews.net/index.asp

Japan Times http://www.japantimes.co.jp/

I don't visit all of these daily of course; it would be a fulltime job.  And there are others.  I've added WantToKnow to my list as well as  Project Camelot.  And if others have favorite news sources, it would be helpful, I think, to post them.

"The happy heart runs with the river, floats on the air, lifts to the music, soars with the eagle, hopes with the prayer."

"Hope was conspired with the wind and blown away the demons of despair."

"We spend precious hours fearing the inevitable. It would be wise to use that time adoring our families, cherishing our friends, and living our lives."

"God puts rainbows in the clouds so that each of us - in the dreariest moments - can see a possibility of hope."

"Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination, full of hope."

"Hope does not take away your problems. It can lift you above them."

"Hope and fear cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Invite one to stay."

All quotes by the wonderful Maya Angelou.

Much love, hope, and many blessing to each of you today and always,
Penny :-)
